Family

Hello Students & Families,

I hope you all are well, and staying safe.  I miss seeing your adorable faces daily.
As of right now, we're still waiting to hear from the county as to what the next steps will be.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at glotfetm@pwcs.edu.

Please stay safe,

Mrs. G.

Update:  June 1, 2020 Wow, it's June! I was in the building today, and I did not find any personal items that belonged to anyone.
We are in the final two weeks of school.  I have added a word search, and crazy story for you to work on if you would like.  I've also added some work for math, and you can choose what prompt you would like to write about.  Have a great week!

Update May 29, 2020  I will be returning to the building on Monday, June 1, 2020, to pack up any student belongings I find in my classroom such as your personal books, notebooks, etc.  If I find anything I will bag it up and make sure it gets to your general education teacher.  So instead of Monday Morning Office Hours, this week they will be Tuesday, 9:00-10:00 a.m.  It's hard to believe we only have 2 more weeks of school left.
Have an awesome weekend!

Update:  May 26, 2020 I have posted some more Origo at Home for you to choose from, and there are the writing prompts, and Epic work.  Have a good short week.

Update:  May 22, 2020 I have posted a few Nearpods about Memorial Day.  I hope you have a nice three day weekend.
Mrs. G.

Update: May 18, 2020
I hope you all have a nice weekend and are having a great start to the week.  I will be resuming Zoom Meetings for the third grade on Thursday, and if anyone else needs or wants to do one, please reach out to me and let me

Have a great week!

Update:   May 11, 2020
I hope you all had a great weekend, and that all the moms had a good day yesterday.
I've attached 2, Origo @ home, in my files, please choose one of them if you would like.  There are updated Epic stories, and choose a prompt you would like to write about from your grade level.  Have a good week!

Update:  May 8, 2020
I have added a link to the Origo Math at Home.  I hope you find it helpful.  Next week I'll be giving you some optional work to do.  I hope you have a wonderful weekend, and to all the Moms-Happy Mother's Day.

March 23, 2020- PWCS UPDATE

March 23, 2020 Updates

NEW INFORMATION –

  1. SCHOOL BUILDINGS CLOSED TO STUDENTS THROUGH JUNE – By order of the Governor of Virginia, all Prince William County Public Schools will remain closed to students through the end of the 2019-20 school year (June 2020), due to the health concerns caused by COVID-19 (coronavirus). Read More
  2. SACC – School age child-care (SACC) is canceled through June 2020.
  3. GRADUATIONS – all in-person graduation ceremonies and proms planned through June are canceled. PWCS will work to determine alternative ways, or future events, to safely celebrate the Class of 2020 (they’ve earned it!).
  4. ACTIVITIES, SPORTS – all activities including sports are canceled through June 2020.
  5. COMMUNITY USE AND FACILITIES – all community use in any PWCS facility is canceled through June 2020.
  6. ACCESS TO BUILDINGS – all PWCS buildings remain closed to any visitor, except limited support staff per guidance sent last week. We recognize that students and staff would like access to the buildings to retrieve personal belongings and other items; however, the health and safety of all staff and students is the top priority and at this time PWCS cannot risk potential COVID-19 community spread through such activity.
  7. FOOD SERVICE – PWCS will continue to provide to-go meals from  9 a.m. – 11 a.m. at locations across the County. More details.
  8. IB TESTING – the International Baccalaureate (IB) May 2020 examinations for Diploma Program and Career-related Program candidates will no longer be held. Depending on what they registered for, the student will be awarded a Diploma or a Course Certificate which reflects their standard of work. This is based on student's coursework and the established assessment expertise, rigor, and quality control already built into the programs. PWCS IB Coordinators will share further details with students as available.
  9. GRADES – students on track for graduation should still expect to graduate. PWCS expects guidance from the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) this week regarding student credits. Once PWCS has this information, a further determination will be made regarding student grading for this year.
  10. SPECIAL EDUCATION – PWCS is awaiting further state and federal guidance on providing special education services and conducting IEP meetings. Once clarification is received, PWCS will provide an update.
  11. DISTANCE LEARNING - PWCS is exploring opportunities for equitable distance learning while ensuring compliance with all federal and state requirements.
  12. HOME INSTRUCTION – details regarding expectations for optional at-home instruction during the current closure were sent to all PWCS staff and families last week. Visit the PWCS Home Learning Resources webpage for more information.
  13. STAFF PAY – PWCS staff will be expected to continue to work remotely, and in limited cases within buildings, and will receive pay through the end of the school year as outlined in previous updates
  14. STAFF HR QUESTIONS – Guidance was sent to all staff Friday regarding some human resources (HR) related questions. Detailed HR FAQs will be posted online later this week.

UPDATE:  March 20. 2020
Hello Dear Parents & Students,
PWCS has just posted a Home Learning Page on the PWCS.EDU website.  On it are optional daily schedules,  optional learning links, divisional digital resources, and additional resources for you to use.  These will be under the Home Learning section.

Update:  March 19, 2020
Reading:  For third and fourth grade reading, please read for 20 minutes a day with your family, with one of the three books you checked out before we left.  If you were not here on Friday, please use one of the books you have at home.  Please have your student re-tell what he or she read to you during that time.  Ask your child to tell you what happened first, middle, and the end of what they read, and ask them about the characters, and the setting.
If you were there on Friday, I sent home some reading activities for you to do, you can choose to do some of those, but please work on Reading daily for 20 minutes.

Writing:  For third grade, please write a half page per day about what you are doing, are you helping your parents with cooking or chores, anything you have learned.  For fourth grade, please write a full page per day using the same questions.
If you were there on Friday, and received one of the folders I made up for you, you can also work on your grammar pages as well, as some of the writing activities I sent home.

Math:  Third & Fourth Grades:  You can also go to this website, which is free, that has work the students can do.  https://www.splashlearn.com/

For third grade Math, please continue to work on adding, subtraction, multiplication, division, and some fraction addition, subtraction, with the same denominator.

For fourth grade Math, please continue to work on adding, and subtracting with three digits, and in multiplication, please practice your multiplication facts up to 12, and work some on division.   When we return, you will be taking your multiplication, timed facts for each number.  If you can find some work on decimals, please practice with that.
If you were there on Friday, I did send home some work that you may find useful.

The students are able to use their log ins for CLEVER, and can work on DreamBox,  Epic, Brain Pop, and Reading Eggs.
