I want to officially welcome you to first grade! Your children are going to have an awesome year! I am so grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow with your students. My main goal as a teacher is to guide your child toward academic success and help them prepare for their experiences in the future. This is going to be an exciting and busy year for all of us and I am already having a blast! Your child will learn so much; they will learn to read, write stories, add, subtract, how to be creative, and how to ask questions. Your kids are great and I look forward to getting to know them more and more each day.
Soon I will ask you to read the assigned book with your child every day and to return it to school the next day. The more your child is exposed to language, the easier it will be for him or her ro incorporate those skill into the classroom. Everything that you can do at home will help them at school! Please try to keep a reading log for now and I will let you know when I have created an official log.
As a side note, please take some time to read and discuss the parent information with your child. You will find this information helpful. When parents understand the expectations of the school and their child's teacher they are able to support and encourage academic success in the education of their child.
Most importantly, make sure to celebrate each day with your child. They work so hard in my class and each day they progress and grow!
P.S. If your kids play any sports I would love to come watch. Send me a copy of their schedule so I can do my best to make it to a game!
We will model and reflect on learner profile by: Encouraging collaboration, fostering inquiry, and inspiring service.
Getting to School
The first bell rings at 8:10 and the tardy bell at 8:20. Instruction starts immediately after the bell so please make sure that your child starts the day on a positive note by being on time. Arriving on time allows your child to have time to get settled and prepared for a good day. Also if at anytime during the year your child’s transportation is different from the norm please send in a note.
